The lush forest of the Tongass National Forest outside of Ketchikan, Alaska is overwhelming. There are trees everywhere and they go on and on. I’m from Southern California where the only things that grow are palm trees and front lawns so you can imagine the kind of impact a place like this can have. I was blown away.

The Tongass covers 17 million acres.

Pacific salmon—chum, Coho, king, pink and sockeye—depend upon the streams and waters of the Tongass for spawning.

According to Wikipedia, one million people visit the forest every year.

Pacific Log and Lumber won a contract to clear-cut 4.4 million board-feet of timber in July, 2009.

I’d like to spend more time amongst the trees.
