BCN, as the locals call it, is one of the best cities in the world. I’m not mincing words here. I’ve been to a few places in my travels and I have to say that I’d move to Barcelona in a heartbeat.
The city has great art at places like MACBA (pictured above) as well as the Fundació Joan Miró and Fundació Antoni Tàpies. Not only is Barcelona a world class city to see art, it also has some of the most impressive architecture that I’ve seen. Its most famous son is Antoni Gaudí, the Modernist architect. Casa Mila is a great example of his fluid style, as is the Sagrada Familia. Not many streets have paving stones designed by famous architects lining the sidewalks of it’s main thoroughfares.

The architectural tradition continues today. Enric Miralles called the city home, where you can see the Mercat de Santa Caterina and it’s undulating tile roof.

Torre Agbar by Jean Nouvel is another recent example.

The city also has little gems tucked away on side streets that pop out as you wander the streets.

And the people. There is no room to discuss the warmth with which residents of the city have taken me in.

This post just begins to touch upon all that makes Barcelona such an amazing city. Las Ramblas and the teeming crowds that pulse along the street taking an evening stroll. The winding corridors of the El Gòtic and the delight in stumbling upon the quiet stone of Plaça de Sant Felip Neri. The vibrant beaches at La Barceloneta that bridge the city into the sea. The food, oh the little surprises one can find like that little gelato place by Santa Maria del Mar. I can never remember the name but somehow I always manage to find the place. I could go on and on talking about this city…
